Weddings in India have always been a great deal. From decor to catering to venues to guests, every segment is given a thorough thought and a considerable amount of research. As an average indian, I attended countless wedding celebrations across the country. These grand, elaborate events only made me realise the large scale impact that it had on the environment. From wastage of food to extravagant decoration which turned futile, these little things were something that I often thought about. In a few years, it was time for my own wedding day. I was fortunate enough to find a partner who believed in the same values and ethics and also had a hidden love for nature.
Opting for a giant over the top Indian wedding was never one of our fancies. We didn’t want to celebrate our relationship alone, but also the blessings that were endowed upon us by our compassionate planet earth. We knew we wanted a simple but meaningful green wedding.
What is a green wedding, you ask? Well, a green wedding is an event that is conscious of its repercussions on the surroundings. In such a mindful event, one pays attention into every detail that organises the event while minimizing any negative effects to the environment.
At first, implementing such a sustainable event seemed like a lot of leg work. But to our surprise, it turned out to be much easier than we thought. Our commitment to protecting the environment gave us that push and motivated us to keep going.
The Out Of The Box Thought
There are so many ways in which you can go eco friendly and reduce any hazardous impact in a wedding. We incorporated many such sustainable aspects like renting wedding decoration, opting for organic food and even distributing waste food to the poor. But something was still missing. A part of us still wanted to do more, to go that extra mile to make a difference.
We invested a little more time, effort and research and came across the concept of Plantable Seed Paper Wedding Invitation Cards. We fell in love with the concept of our wedding invitation card transforming into a beautiful green tree. This idea made it possible for our wedding day to be remembered for the rest of our lives. This was it. This unique form of wedding invites spoke wonders to us and effectively conveyed our commitment to loving the earth as much as we loved each other.
The idea was that our wedding invites would be printed on a one of kind, handmade sheet of paper which would be plantable in nature. This paper is referred to as seed paper. Once used, this wedding invite had the potential to blossom into flowers. In this way, our guests as well as our planet would receive a special gift that they could cherish. We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate our wedding day.
How We Implemented Our Eco Friendly Idea
We were thrilled to incorporate such a concept, but were clueless at the same time. We then found Pepaa to be India’s most trusted seed paper company. To our surprise, Pepaa’s team turned out to be one of warmest we came across. They eagerly helped us understand how seed paper worked and all the wonderful things it was capable of. We learnt about all the variety of seeds that could be embedded in this handmade paper. We shortlisted tomato, marigold and chilli seeds out of which we finalised marigold. A number of beautiful designs with bright colors and elegant fonts were placed before us so we could choose best for our wedding invite. After a couple of samples, our personalised Plantable Seed Paper wedding cards were ready to be sent to our guests.
The Overwhelming Response From Guests
They say a marriage is ceremony of two individuals and their families coming together. A marriage is the celebration of love and happiness that you cherish and share with all your close people. On this memorable day, we too had 500 of our family members, relatives, and friends showering us with their good wishes. As Indians, we have been taught to give immense respect and treat our guests well. We were elated to be surrounded by 500 of well wishers on our wedding day. We knew that being enveloped by our strong support system will make this day even more magical. Hence, we desired to do something extra special for them. We didn’t want to join the rat race of every wedding. My partner and I were very clear that sending out boring, meaningless wedding cards along with sweets and dry fruits were not our cup of tea. We wanted our day to be remembered by our loved ones forever.
So, sending out the green wedding cards by Pepaa was the best decision of our lives because they won’t be storing our invitation cards in a dust-filled cupboard. Instead, it will be blooming in their flower garden.
